Dawn Forrester Price's "Run To Freedom" with illustrations by Erin Ennis is a spell-binding coming-of-age novel that will awaken the warrior, the lover, and the magician within every young person and adult who experiences this work. I could not put the book down. Dawn weaves the slave narrative with great care and allows us to see, hear, and feel the complexities of a conquered people through the eyes of a young “man-boy” who dreams only of freedom among the skillful, yet “silent maroons” in the Cockpit Mountains of Jamaica. I have ceremoniously handed the book to my 10 year old granddaughter who has added it to her summer reads—a rite of passage, I would dare say. “Run to Freedom” should be in every classroom in the Caribbean and on the Pan African/Caribbean curricula in every college. Congratulations, Dawn. Reviewer: Andrene Bonner, July 7, 2013
